Of course, those who do attempt this procedure will want to connect their iPhone to iTunes and create a backup of everything they don’t want to lose.

  • To perform a fresh install, sync the device with iTunes and click on “Restore” in the pane.
  • The iPhone will then begin the process of reinstalling the OS. Tap “No” when asked whether to restore from backup or not and then wait a few minutes for the process to complete.
  • The tap “Set up as new” when prompted. At this point, the iPhone will begin syncing the media it finds in iTunes.

iCloud is a great way to secure vital data, but those who have just performed a fresh install no longer need these old backups.

To clear out iCloud in order to make way for new files:

Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup > Manage Storage and then tap “Delete Backup.”
